Bahu Fort and Gardens​

A 5 km from the city centre, will bring you to the famous Bahu Fort & Gardens. Standing on the bank of the river Tawi, the fort is believed to have been constructed around 3000 years back by Raja Bahulochan. Inside the fort famous Bawe Wali Mata temple dedicated to Hindu goddess Kali can be found. Later the Dogra rulers, developed a beautiful terraced garden ‘Bagh-e-Bahu’ around the fort, which attracts many tourists.

Amar Mahal Palace: Showcasing Dogra Culture and Heritage

Amar Mahal Palace stands as a magnificent tribute to Dogra cultural heritage and imperial history of the region. Constructed in 1890 by Raja Amar Singh, a revered Dogra king, this beautiful building is crafted from red sandstone.  The Place is situated along the banks of the Tawi River in Jammu city, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Shivalik mountain range.

It was the residence of the late Maharani Tara Devi, wife of Amar Singh,  until her passing in 1967, after that. Dr. Karan Singh, her son, and his wife Yasho Rajya Laxmi converted it into a museum under the banner of the Hari-Tara Charitable Trust. The museum serves as a showcase of the Dogra culture, the royal history of Jammu, and the art and culture of the region. It proudly displays collections of Dogra and Pahari paintings portraying royal portraits, mythological stories, and folklore. Additionally, the museum houses a remarkable collection of contemporary Indian art paintings.

A key highlight within the museum is the Dogra Kings Gold Sofa, an awe-inspiring piece weighing 120 kg. Visitors can also explore the suite of Maharani Tara Devi, where her clothes, bedspreads, and a Victorian-style bathroom are on display. The museum features a vast library with an extensive collection of books covering history, philosophy, literature, and politics.

The museum arranges heritage walks for visitors, guiding them through the complex and its exhibitions to provide valuable insights into the history of Jammu and the surrounding region.

City of Temples: For pilgrims, the city of Jammu and the nearby area offers several religious holy places like Bagh-e-Bahu Kali Temple, Vaishno Devi (Katra), Raghunath Temple, Ranbireshwar Temple, Mahamaya Temple, Peer Khoh and Peer Baba.
